Staying active is one of the best things you can do on dialysis. It helps strength, mood, sleep and blood pressure, and it makes travelling easier.

Start gently

Ask your nephrologist before starting a new activity. Then begin with ten minutes a day and increase little by little.

Good activities

  • Walking, ideally every day
  • Cycling on a stationary bike, sometimes possible during the session itself
  • Gentle swimming if your access allows it
  • Light strength exercises with elastic bands
  • Stretching and balance exercises

Signs to stop

  • Chest pain or unusual breathlessness
  • Dizziness
  • Palpitations
  • Cramps that do not go away
